Thorris R Brown Obituary (1926

Thorris Remonia Molock Brown, age 96, of Lincoln, DE, went home to be with the Lord on June 9, 2022. She passed after a brief illness in the Delaware Hospice Center located in Milford, Delaware. Thorris was born to the late Reverend Charles Henry Molock Sr. and Grace Anna Louise Rachel Jackson Molock on January 5, 1926. Her birth took place on the eastern shore of Maryland, near Cambridge, in a small community called Linkwood. She was the twelfth of thirteen children. As a youth, Thorris attended Rock Elementary School, or "Colored School No. 3" in Rock, MD, Dorchester County. It was a one-room public school serving grades one to seven. The school is now known as the Stanley Institute Museum. It is registered in the National Register of Historic Places. The family moved to Delaware when Thorris was 11 years old. She continued her public-school education in Delaware. In her high school years, she attended Delaware State College High School. On June 17, 1921, the Board of Trustees of the State College for colored students, later known as Delaware State College, approved a resolution recommending the establishment of a four-year high school boarding school for Negro students on its campus. While a senior in high school, she met Robert Alphonso Young and Samuel Stokes Brown. Both men would have a profound impact on her future. In her later years, Thorris spoke of how she was blessed to have two good husbands. Thorris married Robert Young on October 8, 1943. They were married for 49 years until his death. To this union were born 5 children. Thorris reconnected with Samuel Brown through a 50-year class reunion. Thorris married Samuel Stokes Brown December 22, 1994. They were married 22 years until his death. Thorris cherished her family. She lavished love on her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was also an affectionate aunt, second mom and a godmother to many. She often hosted nieces, nephews and grandchildren during the summer making many pleasant memories. She welcomed big family gatherings at her home, such as Thanksgiving dinner and family barbeques. Over the years, she held many interests. She enjoyed dancing, aerobics class, walking for exercise, traveling, nurturing plants, playing cards, board games, reading the newspaper, and watching game shows. She was keen on the latest fashion in clothes. Her shoes, jewelry, hat, coat and gloves had to match before leaving the house. Thorris worked as a secretary and as an educator in the State of Delaware school system, spending the first few years of her working career as a stay-at-home mom with her first four children. She also kept her hands busy with other part-time endeavors such as selling make-up and jewelry. She happily retired from the Delaware school system after 30 years. She took to retirement quite well. She liked to travel, cruise, spend time with family and friends, direct and write plays, volunteer at the local food pantries which she initiated, and volunteer for church activities. She also enjoyed performing one-woman skits on the life of Harriet Tubman at various churches and schools during Black History Month. Thorris accepted Jesus as her personal savior at a young age. She loved the Lord. She set an example as a virtuous woman to her family as she read her Bible and diligently had personal devotions twice a day. She made sure her children attended church and taught each child to pray at mealtime and before bed. Thorris displayed a love for church and was active at Wesley Chapel church as a Sunday school teacher, member of the trustee board, church secretary, along with many other roles. Thorris is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Charles and Mrs. Grace Molock, her first and second husbands, Robert Young and Samuel Brown, her siblings (in order), Esther Lorraine Molock Dingle, Mildred Molock Faircloth, James Molock, Oliver Handy Molock, Charles Henry Molock Jr, Clemon Molock, Gladys Lueva Molock Hall, Herbert Eldridge Molock, Weldon Molock, Clarice Constine Molock Welborn, and Guizelous Ofella Molock Sr, and two sons, Robert Norris Young and Handa Eldridge Young Sr, and her best friend, Georgianna Young. She leaves to cherish her memory her brother Norris Molock (Senora), her son, Gonzelous Alphonso Young Sr, her daughters, Peggi Young Hudson (Lawrence), Jacqueline Crystal Young, daughter - in - law Velma Young, her bonus daughter, Thorris Remonia Banks, her best friend Claretta Davis, and a host of grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
