Gwendolyn Y. Gibbs, affectionately known as "Gwen or Gwennie", heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come unto Me and Rest". On Monday, May 4, 2026, in obedience to the will of God, she willingly closed her eyes and went home.
Gwen was born on May 15, 1951, in Crisfield, MD to Alva Handy Bell and the late William Bell. She was educated in the Crisfield public school system and graduated from James S. Grove. In 1972, Gwen married Harry D. Gibbs "Jack" and together they shared 54 years. Gwen worked for Allen's Foods for 30+ years, doing a host of jobs, before retiring.
Gwen loved the Lord! She was a member of Rehoboth Temple of Praise in Laurel, DE where she was a devoted member of the Usher Board. She found great comfort and guidance in reading the Word and praying, which was a testament of her unwavering faith and peace throughout her life.
Gwen's life was a testament of love and resilience. Her vibrant spirit and unwavering optimism touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, and friend who cherished her family and dedicated her life to nurturing all those around her.
Gwen had a zest for life and found joy in many simple pleasures. She loved to travel, creating loving memories along the way, spending time with family and also doing crossword puzzles.
Gwen was preceded in death by her father, William Bell, and siblings, John Franklin Bell, Laurence Thomas Bell and Miriam Harmon.
Gwen leaves to cherish her memories, her caring mother Alva Bell, devoted husband, Harry "Jack" Gibbs of 54 years, her loving children, Harry Cannon Sr (Sandy), Jack Gibbs, Delenia Purnell and Jacquelyn Bivens (Keith), her brother Anthony Bell (Delilah) and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, bonus children and grandchildren along with special "sister" friends.
In celebrating Gwen's life, remember Gwendolyn Gibbs not just for the life she lived, but for the love she gave, the joy she spread, and the lives she touched.
