Gloria Jeane Morris was called to eternal rest on May 5, 2026. She was born on October 20,1952 in Salisbury, Maryland. Gloria affectionately known as “Mama,” was given this cherished nickname by her mother. The name remained with her throughout her life and became a title filled with warmth, love, and strength.
Gloria was raised in a close-knit family grounded in love, faith, and togetherness. Gloria’s mother, affectionately called “Mother,” often reminded her children, “Y’all siblings love each other and stay together,” a lesson Gloria carried in her heart and instilled in her own family for generations to come.
She received her early education at Flower Street Elementary School and later attended Worcester High School in Worcester County, Maryland. As a teenager, Gloria was offered the opportunity to pursue modeling, but she chose a different path centered around family. Throughout her life, she worked faithfully at Showell Farms, the Carriage House Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland alongside her mother and sisters, and later retired from the Catholic Consortium in Ocean City, Maryland.
Gloria found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved music and singing, cooking meals for those she loved, traveling, shopping, yard selling, dressing up, sewing, needling, and designing her own clothes, as well as creating unforgettable memories with family and friends. Most importantly, Gloria loved reading and studying the Word of God, witnessing, and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her laughter, wisdom, and loving presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew her.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Gloria dedicated her life to Christ in the early 1970s. In the late 1970s she became a member of Salisbury Revival Center in Salisbury, Maryland, under the leadership of Bishop James F. Greene and Pastor Essie C.Greene until their eternal rest, after which she worshipped faithfully under the leadership of her late son, Pastor Andre’ D. Jordan Sr., and his wife, Dione Jordan.
Gloria was deeply active in the church and faithfully served in the ministry. She served as an usher, pastor’s aide, Sunday school teacher, praise and worship leader, and member of the Women’s Auxiliary. Gloria also had a heart for helping others through outreach at nursing homes, feeding the needy, cleaning the church, and serving God’s people with humility, love, and compassion.
Gloria met her husband, Joseph Morris, when the two were teenagers. They were briefly separated when Joseph enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, but love reunited them in a bond that would last a lifetime. From that moment forward, they remained inseparable, sharing 58 beautiful years together built on unconditional love, friendship, and faith. They were united in Holy Matrimony on July 29, 1978, and celebrated 48 wonderful years of marriage. Joseph lovingly referred to Gloria as “My Baby,” a reflection of the deep affection they shared.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Stansbury and Lottie “Bell”Lockwood; her son, Pastor Andre’ D. Jordan Sr.; her brothers, Jackie Miller and Joe Brittingham; and her sisters, Ernestine Dale and Kathleen Duffy.
Gloria was a proud and devoted mother who treasured her family above all else. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving husband, Joseph Morris of Selbyville, DE; her four children, Schevron Morris-Hearne (Bruce) and Ronriquois Morris, both of Salisbury, MD, Taraneka Morris-Jones (Joseph) of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Kautonna Morris of Selbyville, DE; her grandson, Dominique Morris (Tiahna) of Berlin, MD, whom she raised; her one and only daughter-in-law, Pastor Dione Jordan of Berlin, MD; One Special Bonus Daughter, Tanyual Barnes-Barahona (Carlos), of Wilson, NC, and One Bonus Son Monrieka Johnson (Luayne) of Laurel, MD; her three siblings, Willie Miller of Milford, DE, and Linda Johnson and Mary Denise Harmon, both of Berlin, MD; her sister of the heart, Jackie Austin of Panama City, FL; and her spiritual daughters, Veronica Ayers of Millsboro De, and Amanda Tolbert of Salisbury, MD.
