Gloria Irene Smith, lovingly known by many as Sister, G, Ms. Glo, Ms. GloGlo, and Ma, was born in Cuthbert, Georgia on June 1st, 1954. After a life well-lived and full of love, Gloria passed away on February 24th, 2026. She was a woman of remarkable character, whose dedication, loyalty, humility, and creativity touched the lives of many.
Gloria's life journey began in Cuthbert, GA, before moving with her family to Milton, DE. Her journey continued through Milford, Felton, and culminated in Dover, Delaware, where she resided in her final years. Throughout her life, Gloria was a beacon of strength and love, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. Gloria was an accomplished housekeeper at Bayhealth Kent Hospital, retiring in 2022 after many years of dedicated service. She was a woman who took immense pride in anything she did, earning many awards and accolades during her employment at Perdue and Residence Inn at The Marriott. As Robert Louis Stevenson once said, "Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant." Gloria planted many seeds of hard work, dedication, and love in her personal and professional life.
Away from work, Gloria found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid lover of plants and gardening, her hands working magic in the soil. Gloria also enjoyed fishing and crabbing, activities that brought her close to nature's heart. She was a creative spirit in the kitchen, cooking meals, and hosting family BBQs were highlights of her life. Gloria's heart was always full when surrounded by her family and friends. The love Gloria had for her many friends, nephews, nieces, and extended family was her most cherished treasure. Gloria also shared a profound bond with her loving neighbors and her dog, Jay.
Gloria is survived by her daughter Felicia Brown, her grandchildren Rebecca Signey, Curtis Brown, Derrious Signey, Melissa Signey, and her great-grandchildren Zamar'e Corbin-Stanley, Zarion Corbin-Stanley, and Dy'mere Major. She is preceded in death by her father BH Brown, mother Annie Brown, brother Willie Jr., sister Orrie Brown, and niece Patricia Brown.
In the words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Gloria's spirit will live on in the hearts of the many lives she touched. Let us keep Gloria's memory alive, celebrating her life, and the love she shared with all of us.
