Evelyn May Wilson

–

Bridgeville, Delaware

Evelyn May Wilson, affectionately known as "Evie," was born on the 3rd of August, 1949, in Greenwood, Delaware. She was a beacon of courage, dedication, empathy, and compassion in the lives of all those she touched. As a Certified Nurses Assistant, she poured her heart into her work, tirelessly serving her community for over 23 years. She was the epitome of a dedicated healthcare worker, always prioritizing the well-being of others over her comfort. Her empathetic heart was always evident, as she was always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand to those in need.

Evie's commitment to service extended beyond her professional life. She truly lived the Christian values she held dear, as evidenced by her active involvement in the First Baptist Church - Georgetown. Inspired by the verse, “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work, we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35), she founded "Just a Hand Up Navigation," a program that touched numerous lives in Bridgeville, Delaware, where she resided for 55 years. Her passion for gardening mirrored her life; just as she nurtured every plant in her garden, she nurtured every person she met, helping them to grow and flourish. Evie's travels broadened her horizons and further fueled her compassion for humanity. Her numerous accolades, including the Humanitarian Award from the Sunshine Club, the Stanford Bratton Award at First State Community Action Agency, and a certificate of appreciation from GU Will projects and Women Supporting Women, are a testament to her unwavering commitment to serving her community.

Evie is survived by her spouse, James Wilson, her children Ellik Best and Angela (& John III) Tilghman, and her grandchildren Nicole Law, Ashley Best, Tiffany Young, Elliana Best, TaQuion Turner, Ellik Turner, Treshaun Turner, John Tilghman IV, and Janda Tilghman, 9 great grandchildren, and her neice Coretta Neal. She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Rosie Best, brother Theodore Best, her daughter Sarina Best, and her grandson Courtney Young.

Her legacy of love and service lives on in the lives of those she touched. We celebrate her life and the extraordinary woman she was. We encourage you to share your cherished memories of Evie and upload photos to her memorial page. These shared experiences will help keep her spirit alive and offer comfort to those who loved her.
