Charles Perry

–

Lewes, Delaware

Charles Dorsey Perry was born on April 23, 1963, in Lewes, Delaware to the late Charles Tingle and Jacqueline Perry Weston. Charles Perry, a humble soul whose laughter resounded throughout Lewes and surrounding areas, said his earthly goodbyes on September 21, 2026, at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

He grew up in the Lewes area and attended school in the Cape Henlopen School District. He completed his education at James M. Groves High School in Georgetown, Delaware.

Affectionately known by all as Dorsey, he had an infectious sense of humor and a dedicated spirit that shaped the many lives around him. His sons, Antwine and Leondius, feel honored to share and commemorate their dad as a remarkable and loving man.

Dorsey married the love of his life, Juanita Gibbs Perry. They had a blended family raising together their sons, Antwine, Leondius, and Andre Gibbs.
Dorsey was a dedicated laborer in the construction business, but his true labor of love was his family. The foundation he built was not of concrete and steel, but of love, laughter, and lessons about life's simple, yet profound joys. His two sons, Leondius and Antwine, were his proudest achievements. His tender love and guidance are their most cherished inheritance.

Dorsey was a faithful member of Burton Chapel AME Church, Milton, DE where he loved to worship and express his love for God in his own quiet way. His favorite scripture, 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith and not by sight” is a testament to the way he lived his life. He often used his culinary skills to prepare and serve meals at the church. His specialty was cooking fried chicken. On another occasion, he prepared meals for a charity sponsored by his granddaughter, Juanita. Giving and sharing with others are characteristics that best describe the person Dorsey was. With tender love and kindness, Dorsey took great care of his mother during her illness.

In his free time, Dorsey loved playing the lottery, a pastime that brought him much joy and often sparked lively family debates. He also relished long phone conversations with friends and family as his hearty laughter echoed through the line. It was in these moments that his humor shone brightly. As Mark Twain once said, "The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter." Dorsey wielded that weapon expertly, diffusing tension and brightening the darkest days. Dorsey’s love for family and friends was his guiding light.

Dorsey was predeceased by his wife, Juanita Perry; parents, Charles Tingle and Jacqueline Perry Weston (transitioned on March 25, 2026), who undoubtedly welcomed him warmly on the other side; one son, Andre Gibbs; and siblings, Phicilla Perry, Wallace Perry, and Leondious Perry.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his sons, Antwine Gibbs (Tamara), Ellendale, DE, and Leondious Gibbs, Lewes, DE; two sisters, Karen Mann, Millsboro, DE, and Vanessa Nock, Georgetown, DE; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 5 nephews, 2 nieces, a favorite aunt, Margaret Ayers, Lewes, DE; and one uncle, Timothy Perry, Lewes, DE; numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.

His legacy as a dedicated laborer, a funny storyteller, a humble friend, a brother, and above all, a loving father and grandfather, will forever be remembered in our hearts and the vibrant community of Lewes.
