April Tolliver

April Tolliver, born on July 22, 1965, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025. A dedicated professional, April spent over 20 years in the janitorial field before returning to her education to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. This achievement led her to a fulfilling career as a paralegal.

Above all, April took immense pride in her role as a mother and grandmother. She absolutely adored her children and grandchildren. April's legacy will be carried on through the lives and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, who brought her boundless joy.

April was preceded in death by her father Knowles Hovington of Laurel, DE. She leaves to cherish her four children, Janier Johnson (Jeremy) of Seaford, DE, Preston Handy of Laurel, DE, Cynthia Tolliver (Ivan) of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Johnny Tolliver of Georgetown, DE. Nine grandchildren, Trenyce, Tyrese, Jay'Ona, Jeremy Jr., Ivan, Ivian, C'Von, C'Vonna, Cerus and a special niece she held dear to her heart, Shaneice Showell of Westminster, SC. Her beloved grandmother, Mary Ellen Diggs of Clarksville, DE, and her mother, Cynthia Finney (Thomas) of Greenwood, DE. April also leaves behind her siblings: Anthony Hovington Muhammad (Angela) of Washington, DC. Niniya Jean (Jumpci) of Georgetown, DE. Marcus Hovington of Dover, DE. Kimberly Houston (Jerome) of Laurel, DE, Jaimey Showell (Sharnell) of Greenwood, DE, Edith “Retta” Finney (Clifford) of Georgetown, DE, Frederick “Fred” Finney (Camilla) of Laurel, DE, Timothy “Timmy” Finney (Diamond) of Greenwood, DE, and Jody “Becky” Finney (Everett) of Salisbury, MD and three stepsisters; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Known for her loving and strong personality, April held her family close to her heart. She celebrated holidays with great enthusiasm, and excitement; especially Christmas. She was always bold and direct, and unafraid to speak her mind. April's spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
